Taking charge of our Body:
The Latin phrase - " Mens sana in Corpore sano" rightly means, a sound mind in a sound body.
For the time of conception to birth and then up until the age of 25 human being goes through the phase of growth, i.e. the multiplication of cells. During this period of growth one replaces the dead cells and contributes positively to the number of cells, as a result the physical growth is apparent / registered (speaking in terms of modern economics, one may call it a period of increasing return). Between the age of 25 and 40 on a daily basis the number of cells that die out are replaced, as such there is no growth, but the body does not show any sign of deficiency or increase in the number of cells. One can call this phase, once again from the view point of economics is the phase of constant return. From age 40 onwards the body registers deficiency of an approximately 500 cells on a daily basis and is called the process of aging or in the language of the economists the point of diminishing return. Thank God we have some 3 trillion cells, as such if we maintain our body properly then we can safely survive more than 140 years. However we do not survive that long, basically due to life style and bad habits. Taking of life style and bad habits the biggest culprits are:
a) Lack of sleep
b) Lack of proper bowel movement
c) Excess food consumption and no burning of the extra in take
A cursory glance at the nature is enough to prove that in the modern day urban life style, an average person is sleep deprived to the extent of 3 hours per day of 24 hours. One can only blame Thomas Alva Edison for the first one and a half hour of sleep deprivation. Without his invention of the electric bulbs, the average human being were sleeping approximately 8 to 9 hours out of 24 hours. This was more or less uniform both for Urban and rural population.
The next one and a half hours have been robbed by Television and computer internet addiction / dependence. As a result of these three, now an average man above 40 is becoming more and more dependent on Sleep Apnea machine and are exposed to a host of diseases that were simply not there even 75 years ago.
The odd part of all this is the simple linear relationship between average 3 hours of lack of sleep per 24 hours day to the average life span of a healthy person. The accompanying diseases that has become constant companion of a modern day human being are:
i) Blood pressure
ii) Diabetes
iii) Heart problem
iv) Various forms of allergies.
This in turn is a direct contributor to the 140 years of life expectancy, now stands reduced to 70 years only i.e. half of the standard that nature programmed our hardware with.
Lack of proper bowel movement is cause of innumerable diseases the most common of them being cancer. Needless to say that the food that is not properly metabolized has a greater chance of becoming carcinogenic and cancerous at a future point and ends up precipitating as cancer of any organ, depending on a number of factors, of which food habit is number on. The cardinal principal therefore is that after the age of 40 we should all eat less, more so since there is no growth and less and less chances of burning out the excess that can accumulate into carcinogenic deposits in the colon in particular and various other organs in general.
It is worth mentioning here that of the three sources of food, namely Vegetation, other creatures and lastly minerals, the first metabolizes totally, the second source metabolizes to a great extent, but also comes out of our body and some part accumulates as residue to be turned into carcinogenic, while most of the mineral in take is not metabolized and vastly turns to carcinogenic, while the other part comes out of the body leaving a very small fraction to metabolize.
It is worth mentioning that the Creator has created our body with:
a) Auto Immune system
b) Auto healing, to a large extent
c) With standby or supports built in the system
Addiction, when defined in layman’s language, is when the auto immune system stops functioning with respect to certain in puts (mostly stimulants, depressants and
inhabitants).
It is also worth remembering that when the auto immune system rejects any in put, that input is called allergens.
To sum up one can safely say that whatever we put into our mouth will end up as:
i) Metabolized (mostly food based on vegetation and a few from other creatures)
ii) Stimulant (Coffee, tea, drugs, etc.)
iii) Depressant (alcohol and a number of drugs)
iv) Inhabitant
v) Allergens, that which precipitate as allergy (depending on the body metabolism
any number of food can fall in this category, the bottom line being, the body rejecting or inhabiting destabilization of the intake)
At this point it is also important that a discussion on the source of food is also included. All living creatures depend on food from:
a) Vegetation
b) Mineral
c) Other living creatures
Needless to say that the food we consume consists of different chemicals. When we consume food from vegetation, the body finds it very easy to metabolize. Same set of chemicals when derived from other creatures, the efficiency of destabilization goes down by a small notch, while the same chemical from mineral source is the hardest to metabolize, as such body rejects a large part of it as unprocessed in put and comes out of the body via various natural elimination process like urine, stool or perspiration.
The natural conclusion therefore is to have all the food from vegetation rather than the later two sources. Because men had been domesticating most of the animals that we eat and fish is found in abundance in nature therefore this source is also dependable, provided they are not tampered with other chemical or hormonal manipulation.
We should try and avoid consumption from the mineral source as much as we can. However, the technology based modern living has made it virtually impossible to survive with out this source. Starting from Pharmaceutical drugs to all processed and preserved food are totally based on this source alone and therefore the massive explosion of cancer, heart, liver, kidney. pancreas, lung, prostrate, colon breast, etc..
It is worth mentioning that Seeds, beans and nut all have life cells dormant in them and as such can germinate into plants and vegetation given the right environmental condition(s).
Therefore when these three forms the basic food source, we can expect not only optimum result in metabolizing but contributing directly to longevity. Whereas any chemical from mineral source, in the long run will contribute to side effects of sedimentation and therefore carcinogen. Besides, a number of them are also natural aphrodisiacs and delays all sex related complications that we now blame to age. Nature has created us to be sexually active for as long as tghe body sustains, i.e. as late as nineties (for both men and women).
With age as we start depleting the trace minerals in our body, we start popping multi vitamins tablets and mineral substitutes without properly understanding the body chemistry and merely because the TV commercial has said so or the family physician has prescribed it. We do not even care to remember that our individual metabolizing capacity is unique and as such a signature, therefore it can never be like a free size condom, i.e. one size fit all type of approach is not only wrong but deadly.
Please remember that nature started color coding before we human being became aware of this technique. As such form color we can determine which seed, nut and bean is rich in which particular mineral, as for example Red Bean is rich if Iron (one can find details of it from relevant publications on the subject.
At this point it is important to suggest a bean based rice recipe that can balance all our daily requirement and imbalance of trace minerals is highly desirable. Rice (preferably brown or par boil) when steamed or boiled with one tea spoon full of the following types of beans forms a very healthy diet:
Kidney, Faba, red, black, soya, lima, zebra, mung, bean lean seed, peas like chick pea, green and yellow pea, Red Rose rice and raw ground nuts.
Along with the above rice one has to consume on a daily basis, one nut each of the following type, (being careful about the cardinal principal that one should never go nuts with nuts):
Cashew, Almond, Chest, Pecan, Pistachio, Wall nut, Brazilian nut along with one each of :
Date, Apricot, Prune, various berries (one each) Fig, and seeds like flex seed, sunflower seed and any other edible seed.
In order to do this one has to buy nuts in shell and grow the self discipline of cracking one nut at a time with a nut cracker.
At this point it is also important to mention that breakfast should be the heaviest food in take for the day and dinner should be the lightest. In fact after 40, one proper meal a day and nibbling the seeds, nuts and dried fruits (mentioned above) every 60 to 90 minutes can result into optimum management of the digestive system, that can push our healthy living from average of 70 years to more towards the 140 years mark.
Along with these a very generous serving of fish and seasonal vegetables and fruits will ensure the chemical balancing required for the particular season and geo-physical / climatic variations that we are subject to in our place of living. Say for example people living in desert region can have up to two or three date a day, where as those living in colder countries need no more than one a day.
In other words one has to self educate one self, basing on their climate, weather and re4gion where they live. The paradox is nature has taught all other animals via instinct, whereas for men, nature has left this to be acquired via knowledge and wisdom, since man can think unlike other animals / creature, which is both a blessing and a curse.
Last but not the least is the cardinal principal of bowel movement, in that the rule is very simple, one meal on bowel movement two meal two movement per day. In fact the ideal situation demands bowel movement within six to eight hours after the food consumption.
One need not go to the doctor on a regular basis, rather daily checking of ones own the tongue, eye and breath to determine the health of one’s own digestive system is good enough and thys reduce the health care cost of both individual and / or Government (as the case may be).
Next logical step is to maintain one’s E.N.T. and other body hygiene. This is a topic that will be dealt with in a different forum, however while on the topic of food in take the only thing that need to be mentioned is that regular consumption of fish (at least four serving per day for five days a week can result in good eye sight, while consumption of sour tamarind can delay the process of dementia by 85 %. Besides the need of calcium from milk, potassium from banana, Vitamin “C” from citrus fruits, “D” from yellow fruits, anti oxidants from herbal tea, etc are also very important in health management.
With the present pandemics and systematic attack on the source of edible meat like beef (Mad cow disease). Poultry meat (bird flu ) and H1N1 for Pork meat should really scare the hell and desire to consume these meat.
In a South East Asian countries like Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, etc. where all perishable vegetables, fruits and fish are regularly tainted by formalin, is a major cause of health hazard, while GMO has tainted the entire fruits and vegetable supply in the West should encourage us to change our food habit to seeds, beans and nuts all the more.
Globalization has accomplished one thing very effectively, in that all things that are bad, immoral and deadly can travel faster than the host men themselves, as such it is very difficult to achieve moral high grounds free from the bombardment of commercials and motivated hidden agenda of the devil itself, due to the greed and fear that accompany the immoral things.
Mind and soul like body needs continuous and proper nourishment and can die, thus leaving the effect of dead man walking in a very literal sense.
As the Latin phrase goes (mentioned above) to have a sound body, the prerequisite is to have sound mind. In today’s world to have an unbiased sound mind is becoming virtually impossible.
The very first verse that came to Muhammed (PBU) was IQRA – READ.
It is very important to read voraciously and digest what is being read. Like the dietary based on seed, beans and nuts, one must read thoroughly history, literature, basic Chemistry (including inorganic & organic, pharmacology, and nutrition) and Physics (including astro-physics, quantum mechanics), biology, zoology, botany, geography and above all Meta Physics (mother of all subjects). Only when one properly synthesizes these subjects, can one expect to have some kind of a basic sound mind. The problem in this day and era of Specialization is that, most often than not, we end up specializing in one very small part of one subject and tend to discard all others as inferior subjects and that is the real death of a healthy mind that the nature has provided us with. The rule therefore is read from cradle to grave and assimilate whatever is being read, i.e. have applied aspect of the subject read form a part of the life style.
Last but far from being the least, is the nourishment of the soul. Once again in this era of mass communication, it is very difficult to develop spiritually, since modern mass production mechanism tends to mass produce this aspect of human life as well, when the fact remains, that like metabolism, spirituality is also unique as a signature and has to be developed as we walk the path of life rather than basing on mere Google search and Wickepedia. One’s own life experience, along with his / her faith and education, culture and conviction, the spirituality has to be tailor made based on basic principles like the Ten Commandments, or the true meaning of the Torah, Bible, Quran and other books of faith free from rituals and motivated interpretation of the clergies. One can not show a single religion that is not based on basic truths about communal living. The problem creeps in with the hidden agenda of the clergies and the ruling elites and the local rituals and cultures. The way to circumvent this obstacle is once again developing a voracious reading habit and establishing a direct relationship with nature and the Creator and throw away any via media of all sorts, including the clergies.
It is a fact that more killings and injustice has been done in the name of God and religion than all forms of other extortions combined.
A thorough look at the nature enables one to see how generous, benevolent, self balancing nature is. With all our superiority (as claimed by human being over other animals) we should not only rise above the pettiness of life, rather each of us should be able to leave behind a positive legacy when we die, therefore the saying:
“If ever my sabbatical turns into a hiatus that day I should die.”
With a sound body, mind and soul, one can not only live in harmony with one’s ownself, but for the entire world and the universe.

A sound mind is an aftermath of a sound body and in turn enables to have a sound soul.
